Halloway Collection
About the collection

A room built around twelve cars

Halloway is a single-floor consignment and acquisition house in Long Island City. We hold a small number of cars at a time, know each one completely, and sell them to people who intend to drive them.

Positioning

We would rather turn a car away than explain it later.

The floor is deliberately small. Twelve to sixteen cars, lit individually, with enough room between them to open a door and walk a full circle. Most weeks two or three of them are already spoken for and sit under cover while their paperwork clears.

Marcus Halloway started the business in 2011 after eleven years placing cars for other people's showrooms, and kept one rule from that period: the dealer should know more about the car than the buyer does, and should say all of it before the buyer asks. Every car on the floor arrives with a written condition report, an independent pre-purchase inspection from a marque specialist, and whatever the history actually is, including the parts of it that cost us money.

That is also why the inventory moves the way it does. We buy on condition and provenance rather than on the spread, we price once, and we hold storage and care in-house so a car that waits three months for the right owner is not deteriorating while it waits. Roughly a third of what we sell is consigned by people who bought their previous car here.

Clients come to us for a specific thing more often than they come to browse. A manual gearbox, a delivery-mileage example, a color combination that was ordered eleven times. When it is not on the floor we go and find it, usually through the same network of owners, workshops and registrars we have been buying from for a decade.

Credentials

How we are held to it

Registered motor vehicle dealer

Licensed and bonded in the State of New York. The dealer facility number appears on every bill of sale and consignment agreement.

Independent pre-purchase inspection

Every car is inspected by a marque specialist we do not own, before it is photographed. The report goes to the buyer unedited.

Written provenance file

Service history, ownership chain, accident and import records and open recalls, assembled before listing and handed over at delivery.

Insured storage and transit

Climate-controlled storage on site and enclosed transport, both insured at agreed value rather than book value.

Consignment agreements in writing

Fixed commission, an agreed reserve, and a monthly written account of viewings and offers. No fees are charged before a sale.

Export and registration handling

Customs documentation, carrier booking and out-of-state registration handled in-house for cars leaving New York.

The desk

Eight people, one floor

Everyone here answers their own phone. If you have spoken to someone about a car, that is the person who will be there when you come to see it.
